Teddy Boucle, The Fabric Nobody Walks Past

Teddy boucle is a dense, curled pile with the plush give of a favourite winter coat. Run a hand across it and the loops shift, so the surface catches light in soft, shifting depth rather than a flat sheen. On a headboard this large, that texture does something a smooth fabric cannot: it turns a bold statement into an inviting one.

It also softens a room acoustically and visually. Against crisp white bedding, painted plaster, or warm timber, the teddy reads as considered comfort rather than showpiece, which is exactly why it has become the finish designers reach for when a bedroom needs to feel calm as well as expensive.

When your order lands, the timber is cut, the padding is built up, and the boucle is stretched and hand finished by upholsterers in Yorkshire who have been doing this for years. Teddy boucle is an unforgiving fabric to work with, because its pile shows every lazy seam, so the panels are matched and tensioned by hand until the loops run true across the whole headboard.

What is teddy boucle fabric?

Teddy boucle is an upholstery fabric woven with looped yarn to create a dense, curled pile, the same texture you find on a teddy coat. It feels warm and soft rather than smooth, and because the loops sit at slightly different heights the surface has natural depth instead of a flat finish. It is a popular choice for bedrooms because it reads as cosy and expensive at the same time.

Is boucle hard to keep clean?

Not at all, and it is generally more forgiving than a flat velvet. The looped texture hides light marks and everyday wear far better than a smooth pile, which shows every crush and finger track. Vacuum it occasionally on a low setting with a soft brush head, blot rather than rub any spills, and avoid soaking the fabric. That is the whole routine.

Why does the headboard arrive in two pieces?

Because at 127 cm tall and wider than the bed itself, a single piece headboard this size struggles on staircases, tight landings and through standard doorways. Will a standard UK mattress fit?

Yes. The headboard is extra wide but the sleeping platform is standard, so your existing small double, double, king or super king mattress fits without anything special. If you want to upgrade at the same time, our mattress range is sized to match.

Can I add ottoman storage?

Yes. Choose the optional gas lift reinforced slatted ottoman and the entire sleeping platform rises to reveal storage across the full footprint of the bed, which is far more space than drawers give you. It raises the base height from 25 cm to 30 cm and adds 6 cm to the frame length, so allow for that when you measure the room.

How is the Teddy Bahamas different from the Marble Bahamas?

Identical frame, identical 127 cm two piece headboard, completely different mood. The Marble Bahamas is a smooth, subtly veined weave in cool neutral shades, best if you want polished and understated. The Teddy is a deep curled boucle, warmer and far more tactile, best if you want the room to feel soft and enveloping. Order both samples free and let your hand decide.
