Luxury Beds Handmade in Yorkshire | Hotel-Style Beds | PSCL Beds
There is a particular feeling you get when you walk into a really good hotel room. The bed is the first thing you notice: a headboard that fills the wall, a frame that looks as if it was built for the room, fabric you want to run your hand across. Most people assume that feeling is reserved for hotels. It is not. Luxury beds made to the same standard are handmade in Yorkshire, to order, and they are far more attainable than you might think.
The word “luxury” gets attached to a great deal of furniture that does not deserve it. A high price is not the same thing as a high standard, and a bed can be expensive without being any better built than the one it replaced. So in this guide we are specific. We explain what separates a true luxury bed from a bed with a big price tag, walk you through the hotel-style designs our customers choose most, and show you how to pick the right one for your bedroom.
Every bed in our luxury bed frames collection is handmade in Yorkshire after you order it, in your size and your fabric. That is how hotels buy their beds, and it is why they look the way they do.
What actually makes a bed a luxury bed?
When we talk about luxury beds at PSCL Beds, we mean five things. If a bed you are looking at does not tick all five, it is a nice bed, not a luxury bed.
Proportion. Luxury beds are generous. Headboards are tall, often 127cm to 150cm, and the best hotel-style designs run wider than the mattress so the bed reads as one considered piece rather than a mattress with a board behind it.
Depth of upholstery. Run your hand over a cheap bed and you feel the frame underneath. A luxury bed is padded all the way round, including the footboard and side rails, so there is not a hard edge anywhere.
Fabric that earns its place. Teddy boucle, plush velvet, chenille and crushed velvet look and feel expensive because they are. The fabric is the part of the bed you touch every day, so it is where quality shows first.
A frame built to last. Solid timber construction, reinforced slats and a frame that will not creak, flex or sag under two adults and a heavy mattress. It should also come with a warranty that says so. Ours is 24 months.
Made to order, not pulled from a warehouse. A bed that is made for you can be built in your exact size, your exact fabric and with the exact base you want. The upholstery is cut and fitted by hand, which is the only way to get the deep, even padding a luxury bed needs.
The luxury beds our customers choose most
There are more than ninety designs in the collection, but a handful have become firm favourites with customers who want the hotel look at home. Each one is handmade in Yorkshire, made in standard UK sizes, and can be ordered with hidden gas-lift ottoman storage.
The Duke of PSCL: the hotel suite headboard
If you have ever wanted the bed from a five-star suite, this is the one. The Duke of PSCL has a 132cm headboard that extends well beyond the mattress on either side, giving the bed the commanding presence you see in boutique hotels. Cleverly, the headboard is made in three sections, so a bed this grand still fits up a narrow staircase and through a standard door. It is available in around 25 fabrics across the Plush, Coniston, Naples and Crushed Velvet ranges.

The Teddy Bahamas: softness you can see
Boucle has become the defining fabric of luxury beds over the last few years, and the Teddy Bahamas shows why. It takes the same generous hotel frame as the Duke and wraps it in a deep, curled teddy boucle that is warm to the touch and very forgiving of everyday life. The 135cm headboard arrives in two pieces so it gets upstairs easily, and the optional reinforced slatted ottoman gives you a huge storage compartment without changing the look of the bed at all.

The Cloud of Boucle: low, sculpted and fully padded
Not every luxury bed needs a tall headboard. The Cloud of Boucle takes the opposite approach: a low 87cm headboard and deep scalloped channels that flow all the way around the frame and footboard. Every surface is padded, so there is not a hard edge anywhere on the bed. It is the design our customers describe most often as “like sleeping on a cloud”, and in a room with a low ceiling or a large window behind the bed it is the most elegant option we make.
The Astoria Deco: 1920s glamour, modern comfort
For a bedroom with real personality, the Astoria Deco is a statement. A 150cm arched headboard with seven deep channel panels, each edged in black piping against cream velvet, finished with low black block feet. It is inspired by the great Art Deco hotels and carries the look off convincingly without feeling like a costume. It is also one of the few luxury beds in this style made in a single size, so it works in a guest room or a stylish teenager’s room as well as a master bedroom.

The Park Lane Ambassador: classic diamond tufting
Some things do not go out of fashion. The Park Lane Ambassador is our take on the traditional luxury bed: a 127cm deep-buttoned, diamond-tufted headboard with a matching footboard, upholstered side rails and chrome feet. You can choose traditional buttons or diamantes for the tufting, and with 25 fabrics to pick from it suits anything from a period townhouse to a new-build.

Why “handmade in Yorkshire” matters for luxury beds
Yorkshire has been the home of British bed making for well over a century, and it still is. Every PSCL bed is handmade to order in Yorkshire by upholsterers who have spent years learning the trade, and that matters for a luxury bed in a very practical way.
A bed that is made for you, rather than mass produced and shipped in a container, can be built to your exact specification, and because it is made here rather than overseas, we can stand behind every one with a 24-month warranty and sort out any issue quickly. We have written before about why PSCL Beds chose to stay British.
We think the finest luxury beds in the world are made here in Yorkshire, and we see no reason to make them anywhere else.

Luxury beds with a secret: hidden ottoman storage
One of the quiet pleasures of a well-designed luxury bed is that it can tidy your bedroom for you. Almost every design in our collection is available with gas-lift ottoman storage: the whole sleeping platform rises from the foot of the bed on gas pistons to reveal a storage compartment the full size of the bed underneath.
For a king-size bed that is more storage than a large wardrobe, and it is completely invisible when the bed is closed. Spare bedding, out-of-season clothes, suitcases and the children’s toys all disappear, and the room looks the way a luxury bedroom should: calm and uncluttered. You can choose between a reinforced slatted ottoman and a solid base ottoman; our guide to the difference between the two explains which suits your mattress and your staircase.

Finishing the look: fabric, mattress and the small details
Choose the fabric in your own light. Cream boucle looks very different under a north-facing window than it does on a screen. We send free fabric samples so you can hold the exact fabric against your walls, curtains and bedding before you decide. It is the single best thing you can do before ordering a luxury bed.
Match the mattress to the frame. A hotel bed feels the way it does because the mattress is as good as the frame. Our luxury mattress collection is made in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, by Shire Beds, with high-count pocket springs and natural wool and cotton fillings. You can read about our partnership with Shire Beds here.
Complete the set. A matching blanket box or footstool in the same fabric as the bed is the detail that makes a bedroom look professionally designed. It is also a very practical home for the throw and cushions at night.

How to choose the right luxury bed for your room
A few practical checks will make sure the bed you fall in love with online is the bed you love in the room.
Measure the wall, not just the floor. Hotel-style headboards like the Duke and the Teddy Bahamas extend beyond the mattress on each side. Check the width of the wall behind the bed, and look out for radiators, sockets and windows.
Think about ceiling height. A 150cm headboard is magnificent in a room with 2.4m ceilings. In a loft room or a cottage bedroom, a lower design like the Cloud of Boucle will look far more at home.
Check your access. Our tall headboards are made in two or three sections precisely so they fit through standard doorways and up turning staircases. If you have a particularly tight corner, send us a photo before you order and we will check it for you. Our guide to headboards and tricky staircases covers the common situations.
Decide on storage at the start. A slatted ottoman base raises the bed by 5cm and adds 6cm to the length. It is a far better decision to make when ordering than to regret later.
Allow for the mattress. Standard UK sizes fit every bed we make, so your existing king-size mattress will fit a king-size PSCL frame. If you are replacing both, add a Shire Beds mattress to your order and have everything arrive together.
Luxury beds without the luxury price tag
The reason a PSCL luxury bed costs a fraction of its department-store equivalent is simple: there is no showroom, no middleman and no imported stock sitting in a warehouse. Your bed is handmade in Yorkshire after you order it and delivered to your door, usually within 5 to 10 working days. Delivery to the UK mainland is free, our Professional Bed Assembly Service is available as an optional paid extra if you would rather not build it yourself, and every bed carries a 24-month warranty.
If you would prefer to spread the cost, 0% finance is available at checkout through Zopa Bank, Klarna and Clearpay, subject to status. And if you want to see what our customers think before you decide, we are rated 5.0 on Trustpilot from more than 2,500 independent reviews.
Frequently asked questions about luxury beds
What is the difference between a luxury bed and a standard upholstered bed?
Luxury beds are generally taller, wider and far more deeply padded, use premium fabrics such as boucle and velvet, and are built on heavier frames with reinforced slats. Most importantly, they are made to order rather than mass produced, so the finish is to a far higher standard.
Are luxury beds hard to get upstairs?
Not ours. Our tall hotel-style headboards are made in two or three sections, and the frame comes apart, so even the Duke of PSCL will fit through a standard door and up a normal staircase. If you have unusual access, send us a photo and we will advise before you order.
Can I have a luxury bed with storage?
Yes. Almost every design is available with gas-lift ottoman storage, either a reinforced slatted base or a solid base, without changing the look of the bed at all. The lid lifts from the foot of the bed and holds itself open while you load and unload.
How long do luxury beds take to arrive?
Because every bed is handmade to order in Yorkshire, standard delivery to most UK mainland addresses is 5 to 10 working days. If you need a bed sooner, selected designs in our Rapid Delivery range are made and delivered in 3 to 5 working days as a paid upgrade.
What warranty do PSCL luxury beds come with?
Every bed we sell is covered by a 24-month warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, including the frame, fixings and ottoman gas lifts. Our team is available Monday to Thursday 10am to 4pm and Friday 10am to 2pm if you need anything at all.
Which fabric is best for a luxury bed?
It depends on the room. Boucle is warm, textured and very forgiving of everyday wear. Velvet gives a richer, more formal look. Chenille sits between the two. Order free samples of each and see which one works in your light.
Can I spread the cost of a luxury bed?
Yes. At checkout you can choose Zopa Bank, Klarna or Clearpay to spread the cost, with 0% options available. Finance is subject to status and each provider’s own eligibility checks, and you will see the exact terms before you confirm.
