The Grand headboard is built as a series of tall, thickly padded panels, so the whole surface has a soft, cushioned depth rather than a flat board look. Between the panels run fine lines of golden lining. In daylight they are a quiet, warm detail; under bedroom lamps they catch the light and give the headboard a crisp, tailored outline. It is the kind of finishing touch you expect from a designer piece, on a bed that is made to order for you.

At 183 cm tall as standard, the headboard changes the proportions of the room. The wall behind the bed becomes one upholstered feature, your pillows sit against fabric rather than paint, and the bed reads as the centrepiece the moment you open the door. The headboard is also wider than the base, so your own bedside tables sit neatly beneath it and the whole wall looks planned.

Made to order

Handmade in Yorkshire, built to reach your bedroom

Every Grand bed frame is handmade in Yorkshire once you order, in the size and fabric you choose. The frame is built from solid timber, the headboard panels are padded and upholstered by hand so they keep their depth, and the golden lining is fitted as part of the upholstery rather than stuck on afterwards, which is why it sits so cleanly between the panels.

A headboard this tall needs to get upstairs, so The Grand headboard is made in three sections. Each piece passes through a normal doorway and up a normal staircase, then the three join into one seamless headboard in the bedroom. You get the full statement height without the delivery day drama that a single 183 cm board would cause.

Choose from 25 fabrics across four ranges: Plush velvet in cream, grey, silver, steel, black, beige, green, pink, mustard and turquoise; Coniston weave in charcoal, armour, almond, blue, emerald and pink; smooth Naples in black, steel, ivory, pearl blue and silver; and Crushed Velvet in silver, cream, black and mink.

Every bed is backed by a 24-month warranty.

183 cm headboard as standard

The full-height headboard is the standard build, not a paid upgrade. It stands 183 cm from the floor and spans wider than the bed, so a King headboard is around 229 cm across and a Super King around 260 cm. If you want it taller still, or lower for a sloping ceiling, use the custom headboard option above.

Gas-lift ottoman storage

Add the gas-lift ottoman base in the options above and the whole mattress platform rises on gas struts to reveal storage the full size of the bed underneath. Spare duvets, suitcases and out-of-season clothes disappear without another piece of furniture in the room. The reinforced slatted ottoman base adds 6 cm to the length of the bed.

Three-piece headboard

The headboard arrives in three sections and joins into one seamless piece in your room. It is the reason a 183 cm headboard can be delivered to a first-floor bedroom up an ordinary staircase, and it makes the bed far easier to move if you ever change rooms or homes.

Golden lining, assembly and timing

The golden lining comes as standard on every fabric, from Plush Cream to Naples Black. If you would rather not build the bed yourself, professional assembly on the day of delivery is available as an optional paid extra, and you can choose to delay delivery until a date that suits you if you are moving in or decorating.

Good to know

Headboard height: 183 cm as standard, measured from the floor to the top of the headboard. A taller or lower headboard can be requested through the custom headboard option above.

Headboard width: the split headboard is deliberately wider than the bed, so the Headboard Width column is the figure to check against your wall. Allow for it when planning bedside tables, which sit beneath the headboard.

Base and footboard height: 46 cm from the floor. The footboard is the same height as the base, giving the bed its deep, upholstered plinth look.

Ottoman: the gas-lift ottoman base adds 6 cm to the bed length on every size, shown in the Ottoman Length column.

Handmade tolerance: this is a handmade bed, so allow ±2 cm on all measurements.

Stairs and doorways: the headboard comes in three sections, so it fits where a one-piece headboard would not. Follow our step-by-step measuring guide before you order, and check the ceiling height in the bedroom allows for a 183 cm headboard.
