The Silver Fern is built around one idea: a headboard tall enough to anchor an entire wall. Stitched in a bold chevron pattern and standing 170 cm from the floor, it gives a bedroom the height and presence of a hotel suite without a single extra piece of furniture. It arrives as a two-piece split headboard, so it fits up stairs and around landings that defeat most tall headboards, and it can be built with a gas-lift ottoman base that turns the whole footprint of the bed into hidden storage. The chevron headboard

Most high headboards are a flat padded panel. The Silver Fern’s headboard is divided into a run of deep chevron sections, each one individually padded and stitched so the fabric catches light along every angled seam. On a plush or crushed velvet fabric the effect is striking: the chevrons read as soft ridges of light and shade that change as you move around the room. On a textured Coniston weave the pattern is calmer and more architectural. Either way the headboard is the bed’s whole personality, which is why it is built to 170 cm rather than the usual 120 to 130 cm.

The tall headboard does a second job as well: it is thickly padded from mattress height upwards, so sitting up to read, work or watch television is comfortable without stacking pillows against a wall.

Twenty five fabrics, four families

The Silver Fern is upholstered to order in your choice of 25 colours across four fabric families, so the same frame can look quietly neutral or fully theatrical:

• Plush: a soft, dense velvet-touch pile that shows the chevron stitching at its best. Silver (as pictured), Grey, Steel, Black, Cream, Beige, Green, Mustard, Pink and Turquoise.
• Crushed Velvet: a high-shine crushed finish with a lot of movement in the light. Silver, Cream, Mink and Black.
• Coniston: a hardwearing textured weave with a matte, linen-like look. Charcoal, Armour, Almond, Blue, Emerald and Pink.
• Naples: a smooth, low-sheen chenille-style fabric. Black, Steel, Ivory, Pearl Blue and Silver.

Screens rarely show velvet accurately. Before you order, request free fabric samples and hold them against your walls and bedding in daylight and lamplight. They are posted free of charge.

Handmade in Yorkshire, to your order

Every Silver Fern is made in Yorkshire after you order it, in the size, fabric and base you choose. The frame is built on a timber structure, padded and hand upholstered, with the chevron headboard sections cut, filled and stitched individually rather than pressed from a single mould. Because nothing is pulled from a warehouse shelf, the bed you receive is the bed you specified, and it is covered by a 24-month warranty (full cover in year one, parts cover in year two).

Delivery to UK mainland addresses is free, typically within 5 to 10 working days of ordering. If you would rather not build the bed yourself, an assembly service can be added as an optional paid extra, and you can also choose to delay delivery to suit a move or a decorating schedule.

Two ottoman bases to choose from

The Silver Fern can be built as a standard frame on a 25 cm base, or with gas-lift ottoman storage on one of two base types. Both lift from the foot of the bed on gas struts that hold the platform open while you load and unload.

Reinforced slatted ottoman (30 cm base)

Sprung timber slats with air gaps that keep a mattress ventilated. The better match for memory foam and hybrid mattresses.

Solid divan ottoman (33 cm base)

A firm continuous platform with a fully enclosed storage cavity. Ideal under pocket sprung and orthopaedic mattresses.
