A side lift holds exactly as much as an end lift, because the compartment fills the whole footprint of the bed either way. What changes is where you stand to open it. Voluma® Pro Side Lift opens along one long edge, so you load and unload from beside the bed rather than from the foot. That makes it the right choice for singles and small doubles, for beds tucked into a corner or an alcove, and for any room where the end of the bed is already spoken for.

Underneath the fabric is a deep upholstered box, 33 cm from the floor to the top of the platform, with one open compartment and a solid top. No drawers, no runners, no rails to reach around. Duvets, pillows, suitcases and out of season clothes go straight in, and the solid platform gives your mattress a firm, even surface to sleep on.

There is no headboard, and that is deliberate. Add an upholstered headboard in the same fabric, keep one you already love, or leave the wall clear for a clean, minimal look.

Twenty five fabrics, four families

Every Voluma® Pro is upholstered to order. Plush velvet gives a soft, deep pile in ten shades from Grey and Cream to Green and Turquoise. Coniston is a tighter, tailored weave in Charcoal, Armour, Almond, Blue, Emerald and Pink. Naples brings a smooth linen look in Ivory, Silver, Steel, Black and Pearl Blue. Crushed Velvet in Silver, Cream, Mink and Black adds a little shine. The base stands on chrome effect glides that lift the upholstery clear of the floor. Torn between two shades? Engineered to be lifted every day

An ottoman base is furniture that moves. It is opened, loaded, closed and slept on for years, so the structure under the fabric matters more than on any other bed. Voluma® was designed by the PSCL Engineering Team around that daily use, and every Voluma® Pro Side Lift is handmade to order in Yorkshire on a reinforced frame. Its gas lift struts are rated for a mattress of up to 80 kg: one gentle lift from the side and the platform rises and holds itself open, then lowers under control rather than dropping.

The 4ft, 4ft 6in, 5ft and 6ft bases are made in two halves that join in the room, so they pass through standard doorways and up a normal staircase. The 3ft single arrives as one piece. Delivery to UK mainland addresses is free, and if your room is not ready you can delay delivery for up to six months.

Each base is 2 cm larger than its mattress size in both directions, so the mattress sits neatly within the upholstered edge.

Base height is 33 cm from the floor to the top of the platform, including glides. No headboard or footboard is included.

Leave clear floor along the opening side so the platform can rise fully and you have room to stand.
