The design
Soft upholstery, sharp black edges
Most upholstered beds are soft all the way to the edge. The Washington is different. A solid wooden frame runs around the headboard, footboard and base, and every inch of that timber is wrapped in black fabric rather than painted or stained. The result is a crisp black outline that gives the bed real definition, with none of the chips, scuffs or colour fade you get with a painted wooden edge.
Inside the frame, the headboard and footboard panels are upholstered in your choice of fabric. Light shades such as Plush Cream make the black border pop against the panel. Darker shades such as Plush Grey, Plush Steel or Plush Black give a quieter, all-tonal look where the frame reads as a subtle shadow line.

Handmade in Yorkshire, built to be slept on for years
Every Washington bed is handmade in Yorkshire once you order, in the size and fabric you choose. The frame is cut from solid timber, the panels are padded and upholstered by hand, and the black fabric is wrapped tightly around the frame so the corners stay sharp and the lines stay straight.
The bed arrives flat packed with every fixing supplied, and the frame is designed to take a standard UK mattress in each size with no gaps around the edge. Because it is made to order, you can also ask for changes through the custom headboard option above, such as a 2-piece headboard for a tight staircase.
Every bed is backed by a 24-month warranty.

Headboard height: CONFIRM-HEADBOARD-HEIGHT cm as standard, measured from the floor. A taller or lower headboard can be requested through the custom headboard option above.
Base height: standard base 25 cm, gas-lift ottoman base 30 cm.
Footboard: 50 cm high on every size and base type.
Ottoman: the gas-lift ottoman base adds 6 cm to the bed length, shown in the Ottoman Length column.
Handmade tolerance: allow ±2 cm on all measurements.

Washington bed FAQs
Is the black frame painted wood?
No. The frame is solid timber wrapped in black fabric. That is what keeps the lines so crisp, and it means the frame cannot chip, flake or fade the way a painted or stained edge can. It also feels soft to the touch.
What size mattress do I need?
Single takes a 90 x 190 cm mattress, Small Double 120 x 190 cm, Double 135 x 190 cm, King 150 x 200 cm and Super King 180 x 200 cm. The frame is made to fit standard UK sizes with no gap around the mattress.
How does the ottoman storage work?
Choose the gas-lift ottoman option above and the mattress platform lifts on gas struts, giving you storage across the whole footprint underneath. It is designed for mattresses weighing up to 60 kg, sits at 30 cm rather than 25 cm, and adds 6 cm to the bed length. Read more about ottoman bases.
Can I change the headboard height?
Yes. Use the custom headboard option above to ask for a taller or lower headboard. Non-standard heights are made specially for you and are non-returnable, so please check your ceiling height, staircase and doorways first.
Will the headboard fit up my stairs?

Which fabrics can I choose?
The main photos show the Washington in Plush Cream. The headboard and footboard panels can be made in other shades from our Plush, Coniston, Naples and Crushed Velvet ranges, while the frame edging always stays black. Choose your fabric in the options above, and order free fabric samples if you want to see a shade first.
Is the bed difficult to assemble?
The Washington arrives flat packed with every fixing supplied and is designed for straightforward home assembly with two people. If you would rather not build it yourself, professional assembly on the day of delivery is an optional paid extra; if you choose it, the packaging is left with you to dispose of.
How does delivery work?
Delivery is free to UK mainland addresses and arrives within 5 to 10 working days. PSCL-Rapid™ delivery within 3 to 5 working days is available as a paid upgrade (excludes Northern Ireland, the Highlands and offshore islands). You can also choose to delay delivery until after a date that suits you, which is handy if you are waiting to move in or finish decorating.
What warranty and returns do I get?
Every bed comes with a 24-month warranty. Standard orders can be returned within 14 days, with return transport paid by the customer. Beds with a non-standard headboard height or custom requests are made specially for you and are non-returnable.
Can I spread the cost?

Step 1: Determine Bed Size
Identify the size of the bed you have chosen (Single, Small Double, Double, King, or Super King).
Step 2: Headboard Dimensions
The headboard height is listed above. If an increase is needed, adjust accordingly as specified by us.
Headboard Measurements are Height x Width x Depth - (Most of the headboards are between 13cm and 25cm including the wings)
Step 3: Width and Length
Use the specified width and length for your chosen bed size from the dimensions table provided on the product page.
Step 4: Base Height
Choose the type of base you have:
- Normal Base: 25 cm
- Slatted Ottoman Base: 30 cm
- Divan Ottoman Base: 33 cm
Step 5: Footboard Height
